What You Can Do With This Credential

Completing both courses gives you a recognized 70-hour certificate with several practical next steps, depending on your goals.

1. Work Toward CPB Canada Certification

The program is built directly on CPB Canada's national Bookkeeping Competencies Checklist. BKPG 101 covers all Apprentice-level knowledge requirements, and BKPG 201 covers the full Technician level plus an introduction to CPB-level skills. If you score 80% or higher on your capstone assessments, you're well positioned to pursue CPB Canada's Apprentice or Technician Entry Test. Certification itself — including the experience hours, reference letters, and exam — is set and administered independently by CPB Canada, so it's worth checking cpbcan.ca for current requirements before you plan around it.

2. Apply for Entry-Level Bookkeeping and Accounting Support Roles

This certificate reflects hands-on practice with the full bookkeeping cycle, from source documents to financial statements, and can support applications for positions such as:

  • Bookkeeper or junior bookkeeper in a small or medium-sized business
  • Accounts receivable or accounts payable clerk
  • Payroll clerk or payroll administrator support
  • Accounting or administrative assistant handling day-to-day financial records

Note: this credential builds core bookkeeping competency. Some employers or roles may expect software-specific experience or additional certification — check specific job postings for full requirements.

3. Advance or Cross-Train in Your Current Job

If you already work in an administrative, retail, or small-business role and handle some bookkeeping tasks informally, this program gives you the structured knowledge to take on more of that work with confidence — invoicing, reconciliations, payroll, and month-end reporting. It's also a practical stepping stone if you're considering a move into a finance-focused role within your current organization.

Is This Program Right for You?

This program may be a good fit if you:

  • Are considering a career in bookkeeping or accounting and want practical, job-ready skills
  • Already handle some bookkeeping tasks at work and want a recognized credential to back it up
  • Want a pathway toward CPB Canada certification without committing to a full accounting diploma
  • Are comfortable with basic arithmetic and want to build real skill with Microsoft Excel along the way
