What You Can Do With This Credential

Completing all three courses gives you a recognized 120-hour credential with several practical next steps, depending on your goals.

1. Build Toward a Full Health Program

If you plan to enroll in a full certificate or diploma program in a health-related field, this micro-credential can be submitted for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). If approved, this may reduce the amount of overlapping coursework you need to complete in that program. PLAR approval is not automatic — it depends on the receiving program's requirements and is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and is generally valid for up to two years after you finish this course.

2. Apply for Entry-Level Healthcare Support Roles

Employers in healthcare and adjacent settings often look for staff who are comfortable with medical language, even in non-clinical roles. This credential can support applications for positions such as:

  • Medical office assistant or administrative assistant in a clinic or healthcare office
  • Medical unit clerk or ward clerk
  • Health records or medical billing support
  • Reception or intake roles in medical, dental, or allied health practices

Note: this credential builds foundational language skills. Some roles may require additional training, certification, or experience — check specific job postings for full requirements.

3. Advance or Cross-Train in Your Current Job

If you already work in a healthcare, clinical support, or administrative role, this credential can help you communicate more confidently with clinical staff, take on more responsibility, or make a case for advancement. It's also useful if you're considering a lateral move into a more health-focused department within your current organization.

Is This Program Right for You?

This program may be a good fit if you:

  • Are considering a career in healthcare and want to explore the field before committing to a longer program
  • Already work in an administrative, clerical, or support role and want to move closer to clinical or health-focused work
  • Want to strengthen your resume with a recognized credential in a shorter time frame than a full diploma
  • Are exploring whether a future health program is the right fit, and want a low-risk starting point
Before You Enroll

If you're taking this course with a future program in mind, speak with Admissions or the relevant academic department first. They can confirm whether this credential is likely to be recognized toward the program you're interested in, what documentation you'll need, and what the PLAR process involves. This ensures you go in with realistic expectations about how this course fits into your longer-term plans.
